Christian Martin was born in France, where he completed his undergraduate education. He wrote his doctoral thesis on the critic Roland Barthes and received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His interests include semiotics, French and Francophone culture, French films, and playing the accordion when time allows. He has authored research articles ranging from the medieval poet Marie de France, Ronsard, and Baudelaire, to modern ethnography. Professor Martin teaches all levels of French language, French and Francophone literature and culture.
