Daria Valentini was born and raised in Italy, and studied Modern Languages and Literatures at
the Catholic University of Milan. She received her MA and Ph.D. from the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996, in the Department of Italian, Spanish, and
Portuguese. Since then she has authored several research articles on subjects in Italian
literature and culture, including Anna Banti (1895-1985), Gianna Manzini (1896-1974), T. F.
Marinetti (1876-1944), Edmondo De Amicis, and the medieval woman mystic Angela of
Foligno. Currently she is co-editing a collection entitled "Italian Women and the City" with
Professor Janet L. Smarr (University of Illinois). She has also recently joined up with
Professor Paola Caru (University of Bergen, Norway) to co-edit a volume of essays on the
modern Italian author Anna Banti.
Professor Valentini enjoys teaching all levels of Italian and Spanish language, as well as 20th
Century Italian literature, Italian culture and cinema, and language courses for specific
purposes (Tourism, Business, Translation).
