Planning Guidelines
A framework for organizing the elements and activities necessary to achieve the goal of effectively using instructional technology

The following guidelines are representative of the way instructional technology planning is "normally" done and usually takes about one year. When pressed for time a statement of goals and objectives and a list of needs may be all that is feasible in the short run.

Planning Committee - Team members should be representative of the faculty and be leaders who excel in planning and communication skills

Research - Identify the technology needs of the individuals in your educational institution, identify the technologies and services that can be applied to those needs, and identify how they can be applied.

Draft Plan - Use what you have learned from your research to define your mission and to define the goals and tasks that will lead to fulfilling your mission.

Formalize Plan - Articulate in your document what exists, where you want to be, and how your goals are to be achieved.

Implement - Allocate the necessary resources and translate your plan into action.

Assess - After the plan is implemented conduct another assessment to see how well it is working.

Revise - Identify areas that require fine tuning and then begin the planning process again. During periods of rapid change the need to make revisions will increase.
