Louis J. Liotta Department Chair Office: Science Center 114A Phone: (508) 565-1043 e-mail: lliotta@stonehill.edu Dr. Liotta joined the chemistry department in 1993 after three years as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow in the laboratories of S. J. Benkovic at The Pennsylvania State University. After B.S. in chemistry from The Pennsylvania State University, Professor Liotta carried out his Ph.D. research with B. Ganem at Cornell University. His Ph. D. thesis focused on the design and synthesis of organic molecules which were subsequently used to probe the chemistry of carbohydrate processing enzymes. His postdoctoral research involved the study of antibodies being used to catalyze organic reactions, thus the term catalytic antibodies. He has numerous publications in the chemical literature. Dr. Liotta's research interests lie at the intersection of chemistry and biology, particularly in the area of bioorganic chemistry. Professor Liotta works with 1 or 2 directed-study students during the semester and 3 to 5 undergraduate research associates each summer. For more information visit his website. |
